JEFFERSON PARTNERSHIP

PROJECT YA

Our goal for Project YA (Youth in Allentown) is to collect needed items for the homeless children and their families, specifically in Jefferson Elementary School. These are families facing extreme poverty within the Allentown School District. We will be sponsoring them through donating anonymous gift cards (groceries, gas, CVS, Lanta, etc), entertainment cards (movie tickets, restaurant, etc.), toiletries items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, combs, etc.), household items (blankets, sheets, detergent, etc.), groceries, as well as prayer. We may not all have the funds to contribute every month, however, all of us can take part by committing to pray intentionally for these families. This will have the biggest impact of all!

Project YA also sponsors projects to benefit the Care Net Pregnancy Centers of the Lehigh Valley. Thank you for your support!

JANUARY 2009– notes from Jefferson Elementary

Hope Wesleyan Church Family:

I hope this note finds you well and this New Year is kind to you.

Please accept my extreme thanks for all you have done for the children and families who are experiencing homelessness and fragile lives. These are rough times for one and all right now, so the sacrifices you have made to help is appreciated all the more!

The book bags, the gift bags, and the thoughts and prayers are remarkable. You all have made a difference.

Thanks, thanks, and thanks again - not only for what you have done for "the fragile ones" but also for me with your support.

Peace,
Rooster

HOPE
Just beyond the city of Allentown
is a community so caring.
A group whose goal was to help some youth,
they wanted to do some sharing.

They partnered with a school district
to see how best to proceed.
To help some families in poverty,
the ones with the greatest need.

They embarked upon a journey
that no one could foresee.
It would bring joy and satisfaction
to all involved and this community.

It started as a simple plan,
that grew and grew and grew.
Starting small, each year there was more;
who could have guessed? Who knew?

Backpacks loaded with school supplies
paper, pencils, erasers and glue.
SpongeBob, Dora, patterns so cool,
colors of black, pink or blue.

To children not having choices,
getting whatever was handed down.
Something brand new? Just for me,
brought tons of smiles, no frowns.

Bags of toiletries containing
Deodorant, shampoo and soap.
Brand new towels, a blanket for warmth,
helping turn despair into some hope.

Food collected for a food bank,
where more and more people "shop."
"Just tell us what is needed," they said.
The giving hasn't stopped.

Tissues for classrooms, a constant need,
thank-you cookies for staff.
Warm hats, gloves, scarves and mittens
spring bins with toys bring children's' laughs.

Our gratitude is boundless,
you give beyond compare.
We are so glad you're part of our lives,
this caring community that shares.

Thank you, Hope.
